Here’s a short clip about this whole Reddit experience today. I have to say that as a 55 year old man who chose an unconventional path, it means a lot to me to be sitting here being asked about my writing and my life as a creative person. It makes up for all those days over the years when I wondered why I didn’t just give up. It’s not about money, it’s about fulfillment. I’m very touched by these nice people asking their nice questions. You can read the comment thread here.

Addendum: I’m told this is from 2011. Oh well, it’s still great.

Yesterday I started getting all these subscribers to my YouTube channel, one I started several years ago and haven’t used in over a year. WTF, right? Then I woke up to emails from a couple people telling me a 4-year old video I did about sitting in an office cubicle had gone viral on Reddit. How weird! It’s been fascinating to see the comments on the clip, as if this is a serious commentary on anything, and the couple of people who advised me to take it down because I mention ‘homicide.’ It’s a joke, for godsake! Get a sense of humor already, people.
This is as close to fame as I’m going to get and I’m not taking it down.

We went to see 20 Feet from Stardom last night, about backup singers. It’s a great movie, very touching, powerful, and revealing. One of the things it revealed for me was the voice of Lisa Fischer, very well-known in the music industry but not by the general population and never by me. But her voice is not like anyone I’ve ever heard. It’s otherworldly. And now I want to find everything she’s ever sung and listen to it. If it’s all I listened to for the rest of my days it would probably be enough. This is just one YouTube clip, but I wasn’t able to find one that really does justice. You have to see the movie to see what she does with her voice.
