Huckabee compares Chick-fil-A boycott to being beaten to death and harassed into suicide 0

This was inevitable in a culture in which we have allowed the word “bashing” to be misappropriated by Catholics and banks and pretty much anyone and any organization that finds itself being criticized. News flash: LGBT people really are bashed! We really are physically assaulted and often killed. But up is down in the victimhood sweepstakes, and now Mike Huckabee is using the word and idea of “bullying” to defend a dead chicken franchise!

From ThinkProgress:

HUCKABEE: LGBT REACTION TO CHICK-FIL-A IS ‘ECONOMIC BULLYING’ | ThinkProgress has thoroughly covered the incendiary religious condemnations of same-sex families made by Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy, as well as the National Organization for Marriage’s complete hypocrisy in terms of how it responds to corporate positions on LGBT rights. That being said, there’s little set-up necessary for this clip of NOM’s Brian Brown speaking today with Mike Huckabee. Both completely ignored the malevolence inherent in Cathy’s remarks, instead defending Chick-fil-A from what Huckabee called “economic bullying.”

Website provides history of NYC subway deaths 0

The things that come across my desk!  This website caught my attention because I often step back on the platform and look around me when a train approaches, just in case some lunatic is hiding behind a subway beam just waiting to push me in front of the N.

From AnimalNewYork.com

The New York City subway averages 26 suicides a year and claims around 200 victims total. Is it any wonder that we’re all slightly more sketched out when we step onto the train for that morning commute? The good news is that despite recent events, New Yorkers have less reason to freak out over subway safety these days than they ever have before. The city’s underground transportation system has been under construction for over a century, and people have been dying as a result of it pretty much nonstop since digging first started. Compared to the exotic accidents, crashes, and tunnel failures of yesteryear, the causes of death for more recent victims of the subway have become downright mundane.

Surprise weekend in Gettysburg (the trailer) 0

I’m getting a Mac any day now (it’s en route from somewhere).  Why?  Because my HP PC is getting gummy and slow and I’m tired of buying a new PC every two years.  I’m also getting more into design, taking a class in September on coding, and finally surrendering to all the good things people say about Macs.  They last longer, they don’t crash, there are very few viruses, and they make good designers better.  I’ll let you know about all that.  Oh, and I’ll be doing a video about our trip to Gettysburg last weekend, but I want to wait and do it on the Mac so I can teach myself how to use their video application (iMovie, of course).  Heres’s a photo sampler in the meantime.

Jim Henson Co. drops Chick-fil-A like a hot chicken tender 0

Cross-posted from lgbtSr.org:

I don’t know if Chick-fil-A even sells chicken tenders, but I was delighted by this news. I worked at Sesame Street for seven years, and while it’s not the Jim Henson Company, the connection is unavoidable and very, very welcome.

From Yahoo News:

The Muppets have decided to boycott Chick-fil-A over its owner’s public stance against gay marriage. In an announcement on Facebook, Jim Henson Company CEO Lisa Henson said her company will no longer supply toys or other merchandise to the fast-food chain.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” the post reads. “Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD.”

Since the announcement was posted to Facebook on Friday, it has received more than 6,000 “likes” from readers and been shared across the social network thousands of times.

Coincidentally, Jim Henson Studios is located less than two blocks from Chick-fil-A’s Hollywood franchise. Does this mean that Henson employees are going to have to find a new lunch venue?

Our next “surprise weekend” starts tomorrow 0

Friday (tomorrow) marks the start of our next surprise weekend, wherein one of us picks a bunch of things to do/places to see and the other doesn’t know what they are until we get there.  Our last one was a trip to Philadelphia I treated Frank to, so, yes, tomorrow is my surprise(s)!  I have no idea what we’re in for, but it will be terrific and I will let you know all about it.

MadeMark Travel merges with MadeMark (again!) 0

So many blogs, so little time . . . I resurrected MadeMark Travel when I realized much of our traveling the last five years was on here (and after I’d deleted 2700 posts from MadeMark, effectively starting over).  However, between lgbtSr.org, MadeMark Photo, Kyle Callahan Mysteries and my business, MadeMark Media, it’s just too, too much.  So, once again, I’ll be leaving MadeMark Travel up as an archive and moving all personal blogging to MadeMark.  See you there!!
